While there is no way around gaining weight when you are pregnant, you can be sure to gain the “Right Weight” by following these tips:

– Eat the right calories. Be sure to eat foods that are rich in nutrients rather than empty calories. While you may have cravings try to control them, aka if you want pickles, eat a couple not the entire jar! Same with candy, meats, etc.

– Track your weight gain. The more often you check you weight the more you will know if you are on the right track or if you are gaining weight too quickly, or slowly. If you were at a healthy weight for your height before you got pregnant, you should gain 3-5 pounds during the first trimester and 1-2 pounds per week during the second and third trimester.

– Go to your doctor regularly. Your doctor will be able to tell you if you are gaining the wrong amount of weight. Your doctor will also be able to advise what types of exercise you should engage in and what types of food you should be eating.
