While seafood is an outstanding source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Proteins, it can be tricky during pregnancy. First off because pregnant women are advised to limit their seafood intake and secondly because there are some seafoods that pregnant women are warned not to eat at all.

Pregnant women are advised to steer clear of large fish like swordfish, marlin, shark and king mackerel – which can contain high levels of mercury. High mercury intake can be harmful to the development of your baby’s nervous system.

It is also imperative that you avoid raw fish, such as sushi, oysters, mussels and clams. Raw fish can cause infection or make you get sick due to bacteria which causes food poisoning – neither are good for your growing baby.
