Some research has shown that its possible that babies in America are getting fatter. A study done at Harvard University has found that obesity in infants has risen over 70% since 1980.

The study suggests that babies are getting larger every year due to the chemical Bisphenol-A, or BPA. What else could it be, it’s not like babies are hanging out at McDonald’s or a buffet line.

So what is BPA? It is a chemical that is used to line the inside of many plastic and canned products. It can also be found in recycled paper products.

Tufts University Scientist, Dr. Laura Vandenberg, says about BPA: “Research has shown since 2001 that being exposed to BPA during development, changes your body weight.”

Parents are warned to reduce their child’s exposure to the chemical, which can be difficult. A few states have banned the use of BPA in baby bottles, however even if you are breast feeding you may not be safe because BPA can be transfered from the mothers body to the babies.

Can we avoid BPA entirely? Probably not. We’ll keep you posted when more research comes our way.
